Senior Standards Engineer - 5G Research - --West London

£60000 - £85000 per annum + Amazing Company Benefits and Bonus ££

This is a brand new role in a brand new team that is being created by my client (who is a smashing technology research company)

Working as a standards team member the main purpose of this role is to provide expert support to the companies standards strategies and telecomms technology development with focus in the 3GPP Radio Access Network (RAN) area and also with special focus on developing physical layer (PHY) technologies and procedures for mobile communication networks and contributing to the work of the 3GPP RAN1 Working Group.

* Head up research in PHY layer technologies and procedures of 5G and beyond
* Finding and breaking into new key technologies (whether by demonstration through research papers or prototypes).
* Support in-house Standards activities by drafting technology appropriate patents and working to secure technical property into the 3GPP and other relevant standards.
* Researching and co-operating with the industry (e.g. operators, commercial and non-commercial research institutes and other vendors) to ensure that you are at the leading edge of new developments. This work may be through workshops, face to face meeting and online collaboration, etc.
* Work with colleagues from other specification research groups and colleagues in RAN2, and possibly RAN3 teams.
* Work with internal engineers when available to identify potential implementation problems/errors in current and previous release specifications or through own investigations, and prepare/agree input to standards meetings, as required to resolve such problems.
* Proactively identify developments in standards.
* Develop a close partnership with ETSI/3GPP operators

For this role, your skills and experience should have a nice mix of the below:



* A Master’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, Natural Science, and Mathematics, or any other related discipline.
* More than 3 years’ experience in telecommunications research/standardisation/development, with at least 2 years in 3GPP RAN1 (4G/5G PHY layer design, development or research) and preferably with experience working as an active participant in standards, preferably as a RAN1 delegate.
* Knowledge of the standardisation processes is highly desirable (especially any experience with 3GPP, NGMN, GSMA).
* A thorough understanding of the 3GPP mobile telecommunications system, with expert knowledge of PHY layer technologies in systems such as: 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G.
* Evidence of patent filing experience and high-quality research publications is desirable.
* A solid understanding of key features of PDCP/RLC/MAC layers (the “L2 stack”) is a bonus.
* An effective orator and a persuasive debater with an awareness of when and what to push and when to give up. Specific evidence of good negotiation skills and influence exerted on various decision-making processes is highly desirable.
* Ability to write well-structured accurate and complete technical documentation.



This role entails a degree of EU/International travel so you will need to be a UK/EU Passport holder.
